“Olivia” by Ian Falconer: Summer Capsule Wardrobe
Have you heard of capsule wardrobes? They are my new obsession! Unfortunately, while I’m stuck in pregnancy purgatory and waiting to see what my new body is going to look like (32 days to go, but who’s counting?), I’m not letting any clothes in or out of my current wardrobe.
So, I’m living vicariously through my daughter’s closet. After a couple especially warm Memorial weekend days, I’m also realizing that we haven’t done a great job stocking up on summer clothes yet.
We were reading Ian Falconer’s “Olivia,” a cute little story about a young girl with a lot of energy (I suspect her mom might actually keep the wine industry in business) and feeling very charmed by the grayscale-with-pops-of-statement-red-artwork, when I decided to put together a little girls’ summer capsule wardrobe inspired by everyone’s favorite little pig.

Traditionally, capsule wardrobes are made up of about 37 coordinating pieces that can be worn interchangeably (super kid-friendly–grab and go!) I don’t know about how things work in your house, but in mine, 37 pieces in a summer wardrobe might be a bit overkill, especially considering we spend half the time in swimsuits! So here you’ll find 19 of our favorite Olivia-inspired pieces, including dresses, rompers, shorts, tops, shoes, and even a timeless swimsuit that I’m DYING to have in my size. The important thing about a capsule wardrobe is to make it work for you–so feel free to supplement if you need more than these few staple pieces!
