Mini Masters Artist Self Portrait Matching Game

Isla’s been obsessed with the game Memory for awhile, and it’s one kids’ game that doesn’t feel mind-numbing for us adults to play along with too!

So, we made our own Artist Self Portrait Memory game, starting with portraits of Degas, Matisse, Van Gogh, and Monet, and adding in other favorite artists with distinct self-portraits including Kahlo, Picasso, Warhol and more.

Then we paired each self portrait with a famous work of art from each artist (I tried to choose art that was a similar style to the self portrait to make the matching easier.)

It’s a tough game, but has been really fun talking about each artist, their defining styles (e.g. Van Gogh and pointillism), and why artists make so many self portraits (it’s hard getting models to sit still that long!)
